Session Submission Type: Roundtable Session
This interactive symposium builds upon findings from a multi-case study research project conducted in five states that recently engaged in state-mandated program redesign—Alabama, Florida, Kentucky, New Jersey, and North Carolina. These states represent a national trend of increasing state influence on university preparation programs, and the research illuminates the fine-grained effects of such state mandates and raises important questions for consideration. In this session we use an interactive format, utilizing small groups, to expand discussion about what we can learn from these five states’ experiences and how the professoriate can adopt a stance of more active agency in educational leadership preparation policymaking.
