Session Submission Type: Roundtable Session
Schools and districts increasingly turn to teacher leaders to facilitate reform, which has resulted in the rapid development of teacher leader preparation programs. These programs vary widely, especially with regard to their aims, structure, content, and performance outcomes. Until recently, few guidelines existed to direct the design of these programs. The release of the Teacher Leader Model Standards (2011) provides the field of teacher leadership with a common lens for analyzing teacher leader preparation programs. Each of the four papers in this symposium uses the standards to assess a different preparation program: two that are university-based, one developed by a regional school district, and one from a district-education fund partnership. The findings provide vital information for practitioners and program developers.
