Session Submission Summary

Drawing on Funds of Knowledge to Engage in Research: Latina Scholars in an Intergenerational Dialogue

Mon, April 16, 2:15 to 3:45pm, Vancouver Convention Centre, Floor: Second Level, East Room 16

Session Submission Type: Symposium

Abstract

Intergenerational Latina scholars use testimonios as a method for sharing and analyzing funds of knowledge that could support and encourage emerging scholars’ efforts to critique, create, and expand on current educational theories, methods, and pedagogies. Through dialogue, these Latina scholars present their own lives as a way of producing and advancing knowledge that could lead to breaking new ground in educational research. The symposium session will be comprised of four paper presentations where questions concerning Latina scholars today are addressed in an effort to provide a space for exchanging lessons learned in the academy. Questions will also be taken from the audience to expand our dialogue with new or different concerns facing emerging scholars.
