Session Submission Type: Roundtable Session
This session presents an international perspective on factors related to success in college. The symposium presents four papers based on studies conducted in Austria, Germany, Australia, and Luxembourg. These studies present findings related to new kinds of admissions constructs—such as personality, social competencies, and fluid reasoning—and new kinds of admissions measures, such as self assessments and situational judgment tests. The studies presented here show that these new constructs and new measures may provide a more accurate prediction of subsequent school success than is given by traditional methods. Papers presented here suggest several uses for these findings, including better admissions procedures, and better design of remedial curricula and placement systems.
