Session Submission Type: Symposium
The session will present findings from four recent studies examining methods of improving educator effectiveness through human capital reforms. The first paper examines the extent to which these types of reforms are spread across districts and the factors influencing reform adoption. The second paper describes findings from the Measuring Effective Teaching study on developing teacher evaluation formulas that incorporate multiple measures of effectiveness. The third paper details how principals work to support teacher effectiveness, identifying high-lever activities that improve teacher effectiveness and student learning. The final paper examines the experiences of first-year principals in several urban school districts and links their actions with principal retention and student outcomes.
