Session Submission Summary

Desired Results Developmental Profile Assessment System: Supporting Early Education Programs in California

Mon, April 16, 4:05 to 5:35pm, Vancouver Convention Centre, Floor: Second Level, East Room 10

Session Submission Type: Demonstration/Performance

Abstract

This demonstration presents the strategic and ongoing approach undertaken by the California Department of Education (CDE) Child Development Division (CDD) to develop the Desired Results Developmental Profile (DRDP©) assessment system. The DRDP© assessments were developed for teachers to observe, document, and reflect on young children’s learning and developmental progress. The approach follows the principles of assessment development described by Wilson (2005) which integrate the developmental perspective, alignment of instruction and assessment, quality evidence, and management by practitioners to create quality assessment. The development of the DRDP©-2010 is used to demonstrate the principles applied in the early education setting. The development of the DRDP-School Readiness (DRDP-SR©) assessment will provide an example of our current work and extension of the model into K-12.
