Session Submission Type: Symposium
Improving student results is one key target of the ET2020 strategy, which sets the general objectives to achieve for EU countries by 2020. Each EU Country is responsible for enhancing the quality of education, and defines autonomously the most suitable strategy to this end. Thus, learning about the effects of alternative strategies on student results may help define the best practice that should be put in place to meet the ET2020 targets. After framing the problem within the European-Framework-of-Indicators-and-Benchmarks-in-Education, the session focuses on Italy and presents the empirical evidence on the effects of selected educational policies on students' achievement: the introduction of remedial exams in high schools, the availability of EU added funding and teacher training in Mathematics and Italian.
