Session Submission Type: Symposium
There is a need for generation and discussion of empirical data regarding how principal preparation programs across the nation educate future school leaders to respond to these unique, documented issues and circumstances encountered by LGBTIQ students, staff, and families. This symposium proposal meets these objectives by presenting findings and implications of the 2010 study investigating how leadership programs at University Council for Educational Administration (UCEA) member institutions prepare K-12 principals for equitable leadership for LGBTIQ persons, presenting findings of a separate and comprehensive 2010 review of educational leadership research addressing LGBTIQ issues, presenting focused discussion and critical questions on these two studies from an expert discussant panel, and facilitating open and complicated conversation on these topics among all symposium attendees.
