Abstract

The session opens with a brief business meeting, including presentation of the “Emerging Scholar Award” to this year’s honoree. Featured will be a panel presentation, “From Talk and Social Theory to Transformative Social Action: A Dialogue on the Work of Frederick Erickson.” This event continues LSP’s efforts in sessions over several years of making visible and building on the work of those on whose 'shoulders we stand,' as well as addressing current issues in the study of language and social processes. The panel is composed of nationally and internationally recognized scholars, including Manuel Espinosa, Susan Florio-Ruane, Kris Gutiérrez, Rogers Hall, Ray McDermott, Bud Mehan, Jeff Shultz, and Stanton Wortham, with Susan Jurow as Chair and Dr. Erickson as discussant.
