Abstract

Come socialize and hear about findings from an international collaborative research project which examined, compared, and contrasted educational governance structures, processes, and systems in the United States, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Scotland, and Finland. School board members, board chairs, and district superintendents from the United States and the international community were surveyed with identical, but culturally modified, survey instruments. The responses of those serving in educational governance roles in various countries were analyzed across five major categories, (a) motivation for service/leadership, (b) conception and use of power, (c) curriculum pathways through governance processes (d) fiscal pathways through governance processes, (e) local verses centralized control, and (e) voice and influence.
