Sat, April 14, 8:15 to 10:15am, Vancouver Convention Centre, Floor: Second Level, West Room 204

Session Submission Type: Invited Session

Abstract

This symposium aims at deepening our understanding of the flexibility and/or adaptivity of learning patterns in educational contexts. Four papers of research on approaches to learning are examining, combining and integrating theoretical perspectives from a range of different disciplines such as educational and cognitive psychology, motivation psychology and educational sciences. The studies of Kyndt (1), Vanthournout (2) and their colleagues report on the associations and interrelatedness of approaches to learning with other student characteristics; both cognitive and motivational features are included. The studies of Struyven (3), Coertjens (4) and colleagues provide further insight into the dynamics of approaches to learning. The latter takes on a developmental perspective, the former study concerns a quasi-experimental design study.
