Professional Learning Communities and Student Learning: A Meta-Analysis of the Research

Abstract

This paper presents the results of a meta-analysis of the research on professional learning communities and student learning outcomes. Standard meta-analytic procedures were used. The research reviewed was that presented in published articles in data based, refereed, scholarly journals from 1994-2011, and that contained in rigorously designed doctoral dissertations. Preliminary results show small effect sizes for components of professional learning communities, and for implementation of professional learning communities and student learning.
