Paper Summary

Teachers in Changing Work Situation

Sun, April 15, 10:35am to 12:05pm, Vancouver Convention Centre, Floor: First Level, East Ballroom A

Abstract

The primary action of this study was to hear teachers’ voices about changes in their profession. Qualitative research methods were used to create opportunities for reiterated cycles of interviews in partnership with six teachers of long teaching experience. Processes included focusing on the work, lives, knowledge and ethics of the teachers, interpretation of the consequent information about the changes in their work situation and the effect on students’ learning. Findings indicate that working with students seeing and them succeed is what matters and keeps these teachers in the profession. The teachers report that teaching was more subject oriented in the beginning of their carrier, but has become more student oriented with focus on pedagogy of caring and learning.
