Abstract

According to Taoism, if one follows the Taoist principles, one could have a balanced life and enjoy psychological well-being. However, there is little empirical evidence indicating Taoist beliefs are related to psychological well-being. It is imperative to develop an instrument to measure Taoist beliefs so that further study can be performed to examine the relationship between Taoist beliefs and various psychological constructs. The purpose of this present study is to develop and evaluate a Taoist Beliefs Inventory-Chinese (TBI-C). This study will be guided by three research questions: (1) Does the TBI-C have adequate reliability? (2) Does the TBI-C have adequate construct validity? (3) Is there any relationship between Taoist beliefs and psychological well-being?
