The goal of this presentation is to collectively re-visit Weis and Fine’s (1990) “speed bumps,” both bringing the concept up to date and simultaneously prompting critical discussion about what we as researchers are doing in the field; who we are doing it for; how we work with vying groups in the district and community; where we lend support if asked to “choose”; what this all means given that such research often demands that we work across groups in an increasingly contentious climate where finger-pointing is the norm; how (and if) we accomplish this task; and who, in the final analysis, do we imagine ourselves working for
