Session Submission Type: Symposium
This symposium advances AERA’s mission “to promote the use of research to improve education” by examining how such processes and outcomes can be achieved. We propose that ‘to promote research is not enough’ and argue for a focus on building research capacity, knowledge mobilization and professional learning. We present: an international review of universities and knowledge mobilization; the opportunities and dilemmas in the United States associated with federal policies, funding and developments concerning research rigor, relevance and use; the role of knowledge mobilization intermediaries across Canada; professional learning conversations for integrating research and practice knowledge in English schools; and, international evidence about developing capacity to engage in and with research at individual, organizational and system levels for educational changes.
