Session Submission Type: Symposium
The proposed symposium explores practices related to use of coaches in the preparation and professional development of school administrators. Five papers are included. Paper #1 examines the perspectives of coaches trained to support aspiring leaders during a one-year internship. Paper 2 examines a principal certification program that hired coaches to work with administrative interns. Paper 3 reports the perceptions of participants in a coach training program for school leaders and educational coaches. Paper 4 examines the experiences of leadership coaches and new administrators in a university-based coaching program from 2006-2011. Paper 5 reports the results of a five-year study examining the experiences of leadership coaches and beginning administrators; it provides a meta-analysis of coaching goals and evidence of results.
