Session Submission Type: Symposium
What does equity mean in a nation where the schools are becoming more diverse? This symposium will explore the challenges and opportunities emerging from the dynamics between increasing diversity in our nation’s schools and the challenges of school reform. Central themes include the critical examination of how equity is conceived under the law and in the schools, the implications of increasing diversity for our nation’s schools, and the impact of current reform policies and strategies for achieving greater educational opportunities for all students. The session begins with a discussion of the kinds of issues that need to be addressed in an increasingly diverse nation, with particular attention to the evolution of equity, opportunities, and the reforms adopted to address both.
