Session Submission Type: Symposium
Recent suggestions that sociocultural theory provides new insights into motivation have spurred research addressing a broad range of questions. This symposium brings together researchers conducting novel empirical work on achievement motivation from a sociocultural perspective. It will include important conceptual and methodological issues encountered in participants’ on-going research, including:
• Shift in the unit of analysis
• Role of identity in motivation
• Developing and revising research instruments and protocols
• Collecting, analyzing and representing data that evidences multiple facets of motivation
Each presenter will showcase aspects of their research that demonstrates one or more of these issues to explore how claims are made about motivation.
