Session Submission Summary

The Impact of a Statewide Professional Development Model for Formative Assessment on Teacher Learning and Practices

Mon, April 16, 4:05 to 5:35pm, Vancouver Convention Centre, Floor: Second Level, West Room 220

Session Submission Type: Symposium

Abstract

In this symposium, we will present theoretical frameworks and research results on Michigan’s statewide formative assessment professional development model. FAME (Formative Assessment for Michigan Educators) includes local coached learning teams (professional learning communities) focused on building teachers’ knowledge of and practices around formative assessment. The learning teams were supported in building knowledge through in-person meetings and online tools developed by Measured Progress. The symposium will present findings based on quantitative analysis of survey data from coaches and learning team members at three time points throughout the year. In addition, the research team will present two case studies of specific learning teams based on analysis of video data from learning team meetings and teachers’ classroom enactments of formative assessment practices.
