Session Submission Type: Symposium
We propose this symposium as a forum to provide the first public presentation of the full dataset from the Measures of Effective Teaching project. These measures are sorely needed, especially within a policy and reform environment that has increasingly emphasized human capital management improvements. The teams have developed and combined measures of effective teaching, including digital video recordings of classroom instruction, tests of teachers’ pedagogical content knowledge, student perception surveys, and student performance scores on both a state and a supplemental assessment. The first year of data collection was conducted in approximately 3,000 elementary and secondary school classrooms. The second year of data collection included a feature to allow strong tests of these measures: teachers were assigned classes by lottery.
