Cultural perspectives encompass family views on the causes of disabilities and attitudes regarding accessing services for children with disabilities. Traditional beliefs have caused enormous stress for parents of children with disabilities and this may be one of the causes of their reluctance to permit assessment of their children for learning disabilities. The purpose of this survey study was to examine families’ perspectives about learning disabilities in Taiwan. A total of153 families responded to the questionnaire, yielding an 86% response rate. Five main domains were examined, including causes, perceptions, attitude, disclosure, and support. Significant findings as well as implications will be discussed.
