Determinants of School Health Service Use Among Adolescents

Abstract

Using data from the National Longitudinal Study on Adolescent Health, the present study identifies profiles of adolescent school health service users and the determinants that predict their use of particular types of care. Better recognition of profiles and determinants can inform school efforts that promote students’ use of critical services that moderate their involvement in health-risk behaviors. The guiding questions for this work are as follows: (1) What are the individual-, family-, school-, and community-level factors that predict adolescents’ use of school-based health care? (2) Do these predictors vary systematically across health service types? (3) What characteristics are associated with prolonged use of school health services?
