Fri, April 13, 12:00 to 1:30pm, Vancouver Convention Centre, Floor: First Level, East Ballroom B

Abstract

This study contributed to the field of learning environments by validating the Science Learning Environment and Attitudes Questionnaire (SLEAQ) for use at the primary school level. The SLEAQ utilized scales from the What Is happening In this Class? (WIHIC), Constructivist Learning Environment Survey (CLES) and Test of Science-Related Attitudes (TOSRA) and is made up of 7 scales with a total of 50 items. The SLEAQ was used to investigate differences between the real and the ideal science learning environment, sex differences in students’ perceptions of learning environment and attitudes and associations between students’ attitudes and the nature of the classroom learning environment for a sample of 485 primary 6 students in four Singapore neighbourhood schools.
