Factors Promoting or Inhibiting School Turnaround: The Students’ Perspective

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to examine students’ perspectives of the organizational change in turnaround high schools through the examination of students’ views of what factors have promoted or inhibited change within two turnaround high schools. School turnaround as a policy to improve low performing schools has gained momentum recently, but with little empirical evidence to support its use. In an effort to fill this gap, this study will examine how students feel the specific turnaround policy of replacing the majority of a school’s staff and principal has either promoted or inhibited positive change within their school.
