Student Teachers Toward Completion of Their Program: The Expectations’ Carousel

Abstract

A sample of 588 student teachers responded to a questionnaire from which we created a map of the domains, objects and sources of their expectations. It was translated into a visual tool (Expectations' Carousel) that can assist prospective teachers identify their expectations' dimensions. Applying the Expectations' Carousel several times throughout teacher education might help student teachers explore the development of their professional perceptions. Using it before starting to teach or during induction could support the difficult transition from student teaching to first-year teaching.
