Abstract

Digital technologies and the Arts classroom often present a tension between innovative practice and a need to increase their effectiveness. There are now opportunities for Arts educators to engage with numerous digital devices and environments, including social media, which allow for meaningful and authentic learning. With this comes a need to consider personal use and thus impact on transference to the classroom that enhances young people’s learning and takes into account their experiences with this technology. This paper explores these areas through the narratives of teachers working in Australian visual arts classrooms. A shift in the uptake of technology in the Arts classroom provides a different way of looking at transferring pedagogical skills and designing curriculum is discussed.
