This study had two purposes: One was to find if differences exit in preschool children’s formal and informal mathematics knowledge between Korea and the U.S.; the other was to find factors that might be related to children’s mathematics performance within each nation. The results showed that, unlike previous findings, Korean preschoolers performed as well as or better than their U.S. counterparts on tests of mathematical knowledge. Korean children’s mathematical performance was positively related to parents’ involvement in their children’s math-related activities at home. The findings highlight the importance of parents’ involvement in children’s mathematical achievement.
