Sex Differences in Parental Academic Perceptions of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder

Abstract

The current study adds to the body of research by examining the parental academic perceptions of children with ADHD according to both parent and child sex. Results indicate that fathers on the whole appeared less likely to consider ADHD as having academic implications for their children as compared to mothers. With regard to child sex, fathers appeared less likely to consider ADHD as having negative academic implications for their sons than for their daughters. Results suggest that interventions for parents of children with ADHD should be targeted to fathers with sons with ADHD.
