Recently, triggered by incidents at several universities in U.S., including Virginia Tech and Pima Community College, university administrations are targeting students with mental disabilities for special administrative actions. This paper considers the irony of how universities’ security elements are undermining inclusion by targeting the students with mental disability. In particular, this paper discusses cases at two universities in the U.S., analyzing several different documents, including student codes and news reports, with methods of Critical Discourse Analysis. From the perspective of inclusive education, the author argues that, in order to make the scholarly effort of disability studies truly flourish, scholars in disability studies or in education studies should promote this perspective among university.
