The Pedagogical Ethos Measure (PE-VoT): About How Vocational Trainers Perceive Their Training Responsibility

Mon, April 16, 12:25 to 1:55pm, Vancouver Convention Centre, Floor: First Level, West Room 111&112

Abstract

Related to the 2012 theme ”Non Satis Scire: To Know is Not Enough” (www.aera.net) the underlying assumption of the current study claims that a vocational trainer’s practical and technical knowledge is not enough to successfully educate future specialists but that his/her pedagogical ethos is an important factor too. To date the role of the in-company trainers and the way they deal with their pedagogical responsibility besides other interests e.g. of the com-pany has barely been taken into scientific account. Therefore, in a three-step procedure a measuring instrument of the trainer’s pedagogical ethos (PE-VoT) has been developed and is currently validated (n about 600 trainers). The ethos measurement will be presented and the ethos’ impact on the apprentice’s professional development discussed.
