Mon, April 16, 2:15 to 3:45pm, Vancouver Convention Centre, Floor: First Level, East Ballroom B

Abstract

This case study identifies the results of an international service-learning reading intervention between American School Psychologists-in-training and rural fifth grade students in Taiwan, introduces two new technologies (Elluminate LIVE and VoiceThread, and gives ideas on how to increase the effectiveness of online reading fluency and comprehension interventions.
This service learning project enabled graduate School Psychology students to learn how to conduct reading fluency measurements, collect data, write an RTI report and graph the outcomes of a reading intervention. Additionally, it enabled rural Taiwanese fifth grade students to interact with native English speakers to help improve their pronunciation, reading fluency, and increase their motivation to learn English.
