Differences in Language Development of Three- and Four-Year-Old Children in a Constructivist Context

Mon, April 16, 12:25 to 1:55pm, Vancouver Convention Centre, Floor: Second Level, East Room 16

Abstract

This study investigates the effect of Constructivist-based language stimulation techniques on 3- and 4-year-old children from backgrounds of poverty living in rural east Texas. The results from this study indicate differing patterns of language development between 3- and 4-year-old children, in response to Constructivist-based language stimulation techniques. Specifically, the intervention had a stronger effect on the receptive language of the 3-year-old children, and a stronger effect on the expressive language of 4-year-old children. This study has important implications for practitioners invested in Constructivist-based approaches and researchers of early childhood language development.
