Trends in Students’ Perceptions of Effectiveness of Teaching and Learning Across Years: The Case With the Student Instructional Report II

Abstract

Based on a large secondary data of the Student Instructional Report II ( ) with more than 400,000 classes in seven years, this study applied multilevel models and investigated the variations of students’ evaluations across years due to such factors associated with faculty members, characteristics of the student body, and the courses themselves, Preliminary results found that there was a non-negligible increase of students’ ratings on the course organization and planning scale across years, after controlling the effects associated with college type, course level, field of study, and institutional differences. The final report will include results based on other subscale scores, the higher-level predictors, and more complex mixed models, as well as the interpretations and implications of related findings.
