The purpose of this study is to describe the experiences, perspectives, and interests of instrumental applied students in multiple undergraduate institutions. Further, parallel data will be solicited from string, wind, and percussion applied students for purpose of comparison and contrast. Research questions addressed include: (a) How do backgrounds and experiences differ between string and wind majors, (b) Do string applied majors perceive their potential as performers differently than wind applied majors, and (c) Is there pedagogy that can help make instrumental music educating in schools more enticing?
