Since the passage of the No Child Left Behind Act, public school principals need new modes of support to meet their rapidly changing job requirements. Leadership coaching may provide such support. This study represents the first nationwide analysis of the extent and types of leadership coaching received by principals. Over 1,300 principals representing all levels, regions and states responded to a survey sent to a random sample of principals. Major findings to date indicate that approximately one-half of all principals receive some type of coaching and over 78% of those coached believe that it has been beneficial. The types of coaching received and perceptions of effectiveness with regard to performance will be analyzed and findings presented.
