In this presentation, the researchers discuss an international investigation on the type and quality of faculty mentorships currently implemented at institutions of higher education (IHEs). Using Qualtrics’ survey software, faculty self-reported their mentoring experiences as mentors or mentees.
The findings of this mixed-method research provided data on institutional mentoring practices and on faculty formal and informal mentoring experiences.
The researchers conclude with an open discussion of the findings and provide recommendations for the enrichment of IHEs’ faculty mentorship programs; for more proactive engagement of faculty in formal and informal mentoring; and for achieving equitable opportunity for success in the retention, tenure, and promotion processes with particular attention to new faculty.
