Abstract

This paper describes a study which began an investigation into African American adolescents understanding of issues surrounding climate change and its effect on human health. Results of a survey administered to youth enrolled in a university summer program indicated that there is a need to educate adolescents about climate change and the relationship to health. The next phase of the project will include the administration of the survey to more adolescents, conducting of interviews, and the analyses of collected data. Findings of this study will contribute to a broader investigation that will result in incorporating concepts of climate change into health literacy initiatives that include game based learning for African American adolescent males.
