Abstract

This paper is based on a 3-year study of urban science classrooms in a major urban city. The study involved implementing the 5 pedagogic tools of ‘Reality Pedagogy’ while attempting to instill a cosmopolitan ethos within urban classroom. The pedagogic tools being referenced here are the 5 Cs which stands for Co-generative dialogue, Co-teaching, Cosmopolitan roles, Content and Context. The study revealed that the implementation of these tools resulted in more open teacher- student and student-student relationships, which encouraged a comfortable learning environment and a more cosmopolitan culture in the classroom.
