Paper Summary

Understanding the civic development of undergraduates

Mon, April 16, 12:25 to 1:55pm, Vancouver Convention Centre, Floor: Second Level, West Room 205

Abstract

This proposal describes a study of changes in behaviors and attitudes linked to the civic development of college students at four-year institutions. The study included a sample of nearly 19,000 undergraduates across the United States. The data in the study come from the CIRP Freshmen Survey and the College Senior Survey, both of which are administered by the Higher Education Research Institute (HERI) at UCLA. The study examines how civic development-relevant attitudes and behaviors changed as students progressed from college freshmen to college seniors, especially in different organizational environments.
