This study is the first large-scale effectiveness trial of a Response to Intervention (RtI) Tier 2 intervention, Number Rockets, which explored whether the intervention had a differential impact on grade 1 students at risk in mathematics, based on baseline mathematics proficiency. At-risk students in 76 schools across multiple states participated in this study and ‘intent-to-treat’ analyses were conducted using a three-level hierarchical linear model to account for the clustered structure of the data. Three types of findings will be presented: the confirmatory impact estimate, six sensitivity analyses examining the analytic choices made for the confirmatory analysis, as well as three exploratory analyses. Conclusions from all findings as well as limitations and suggestions for future research will be discussed.
