Sat, April 14, 10:35am to 12:05pm, Vancouver Convention Centre, Floor: Second Level, East Room 14

Abstract

This article examines the racist discourses of “Too Asian” article published by MacLean’s Magazine(Canada)in November 2010. By drawing on critical discourse analysis and the empirical data collected from Chinese Canadian youth in Alberta, it aims to reveal its ideological and hegemonic function in constructing social identities and social relations and to raise people’s consciousness of racism as an institutionalized and structured injustice rather than an individual bias.
