Assessing the Fidelity of a Principal Professional Development Program: Design, Delivery, and Receipt

Abstract

This research applies theoretical program evaluation and intervention fidelity assessment models to assess intervention fidelity in a federally-sponsored randomized control trial. The intervention, McREL’s Balanced Leadership Professional Development (BLPD) program, is designed to enhance school principals’ leadership practice. We report the degree to which the BLPD demonstrates fidelity of program design, delivery and receipt and the implications of these findings for the internal and external validity of future claims regarding the program’s efficacy.
