Sat, April 14, 2:15 to 3:45pm, Vancouver Convention Centre, Floor: Third Level, West Room 303

Abstract

Abstract
This paper focuses on a PhD in progress examining the role of teacher educators in implementing environmental education. This study, situated in India, is aims to explain the ways in which environmental education is understood, negotiated, determined and implemented by teacher educators in the organisational culture of teacher education. Furthermore, while there is an increase in development of policies, there remains a serious dearth of research concerning teacher educators’ experiences in the development and implementation of environmental education, particularly in India. This is the first qualitative study in teacher education and in environmental education in India. By highlighting the policy-practice gaps it raises significant questions affecting implementation of federal policies and offers deep insights for enhancing teacher education quality.
