Abstract

This paper develops a theoretical model of instructional leadership that combines constructs from teaching and learning with organization theory. Without this combination, instructional leadership is incomplete because leaders must function within organizations known as schools. The model is based on the perspectives of three pre-eminent education scholars and relevant organization theory, including organizational routines and politics, organizational learning, and distributed leadership. The resulting model is useful for both scholarship and practice.
