Abstract

Globalization is a force now changing American institutions of higher learning, particularly through the emergence of the knowledge-based economy. To meet this change, more U.S postsecondary institutions are sending students abroad and opening doors to international students. For America’s historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs), there has been scarce conversation regarding how globalization affects institutions that maintain a unique legacy and mission of educating African-Americans. This paper investigates key forces that shape HBCUs response to globalization and addresses elements of their global profile.
