Abstract

The purpose of the study is to examine how cooperative learning groups of sophomores develop in a cooperative learning class in a teacher education program. The major objectives of the course were to learn rationale and techniques of cooperative learning and to experience it by students themselves in the class during one semester. The 38 students majoring in elementary education were divided into heterogeneous groups with four or five based on gender and minors. The class was instructed mainly through small group and whole class discussions. Group members took turns to share various roles in tasks. Students’ final reports of group process analysis and other data were analyzed and found that group members changed significantly about cooperative learning.
