Abstract

   One goal of the 2011 AERA symposium is to “explore how we might look to the future … to accomplish our mission to the fullest extent;” the emphasis is on educational research’s use for public good. However, this public good is described by the AERA as not-yet-fully-realized; it will be ‘accomplished’ ‘to the fullest extent’ in the future we are to look to. Fieldwork in philosophy offers tools for ethical engagement with educational futures by deploying concepts from educational ‘data’ to shape educational future/s/ing (St. Pierre, 1997).
