The objective of the study presented is to contribute to clarifying the relationship between information derived from evaluation and the formulation of educational policy in Mexico. The study explores the case of the National Institute for Education Evaluation (Instituto Nacional para la Evaluación de la Educación—INEE). Applying mixed-methods, this study analyzes how state and federal education authorities use the information generated by INEE, and its impact on the policy process. The conclusion is that the relationship between information from evaluation and decision-making in Mexico is a complex phenomenon in which social, scientific, communication and political dynamics intervene. Information from INEE is considered to be reliable and of technical quality, but its use and impact in policy formulation is limited.
