This study serves to examine aesthetic learning principles applied at the Barnes Foundation art gallery and their effectiveness in providing a useful introductory education for students aged 7-10 based on the writings of John Dewey and Albert C. Barnes. Research data was rendered from published works, archival documentation of the private letters of correspondence of Dr. Barnes, and observation research of students touring the Barnes Foundation gallery paired with an individual student interview. Results showed that an emphasis on Barnes’ plastic values of art was the most effective tool to engage the demographic, especially when coupled with Barnes’ signature ensemble presentation style. Results presented in this report will benefit future research in developing arts-based education strategies for young students.
